What is this medication for?
Albuterol is a bronchodilator used for the treatment of asthma, exercise-induced bronchospasm, and other breathing disorders. It works by opening the airways and making breathing easier.
Your doctor may have suggested this medication for conditions other than those listed here. If you have not discussed this with your doctor or are not sure why you are taking this medication, speak to your doctor. Do not give this medication to anyone else, even if they have the same symptoms as you do. It can be harmful for people to take this medication if their doctor has not prescribed it. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor.
What form(s) does this medication come in?
Albuterol by Armstrong Pharmaceutical is available as:
- aerosol inhalation canister
- each inhalation contains 90 µg albuterol
Some medications may have other generic brands available. Always ask your doctor or pharmacist about the safety of switching between brands of the same medication.
How should I use this medication?
The usual dose to relieve asthma symptoms for adults and children over 4 years of age is 2 inhalations (also called "puffs") repeated every 4 to 6 hours as needed. More frequent dosing or taking more puffs is not recommended. For preventing exercise-induced asthma, the usual dose is 2 puffs 15 to 30 minutes before exercise. Your dosage will usually be individualized by your doctor.
To ensure you are taking the correct dose of medication, make sure you are instructed by the doctor, pharmacist or other health professional on how to use the inhaler properly. The use of an aerosol inhaler by children depends on the ability of the individual child to learn the proper use of the device. During inhalation, children should be assisted or supervised by an adult who knows how to use the device properly.
Always carry your albuterol aerosol inhaler with you to use immediately if you have an asthma attack. It is very important not to exceed the recommended dose. If you still have difficulty breathing, call your doctor at once.
It is important that this medication be taken exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
Store this medication at room temperature, and keep it out of the reach of children.

This medication should not be taken by anyone who is allergic to albuterol or any ingredients of the medication.
